Kansai Airport Smoking Area Guide (by Terminal, Before and After Security)

Reliability: Medium · Last checked: 2026-08-06

Kansai Airport's smoking areas by Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Aeroplaza, showing which are before and after security. There are few after security, so this helps you decide whether to smoke first.

In short

Kansai Airport has many smoking areas before security and few after it. Terminal 1 has 6 before security, but after security only 1 on the domestic side, near Gate 40, and 3 on the international side. In Terminal 2 there is only 1 after security on each of the domestic and international sides. Smoking before you go through security is the safe choice.

Who this is for

  • People looking for a place to smoke before boarding or after arriving
  • People who want to know whether they can smoke after security
  • People waiting in Aeroplaza late at night or early in the morning

Terminal 1

Before security (6): 1F (north), 1F (south), 2F, 3F, 4F (north), 4F (south). These are the ones you can use when seeing someone off or after arriving.

After security

  • Domestic gate area: only 1, near Gate 40
  • International gate area: 3, near Gates 14, 22 and 29

The international side is split into the North Wing and South Wing, so depending on your gate the smoking room may be some distance away. Allow time to get there and back.

Terminal 2 (LCC)

Before security (3): near the arrivals exit in the public area (domestic), near the departures entrance in the public area (international), and near the arrivals exit in the public area (international).

After security: only 1 each, near Gate 97 on the domestic side and near passport control on the international side. Terminal 2 has few facilities, so it is safer to smoke before security.

Aeroplaza (2F, 3F)

Aeroplaza, across from Terminal 1, also has smoking areas on 2F and 3F. Because Aeroplaza has NODOKA, a 24-hour lounge, and two hotels, they are handy while you wait late at night or early in the morning.

Smoking Rooms in the Lounges

In the international area after passport control, the lounges also have smoking rooms. If you are eligible, you can smoke more comfortably there.

Notes

  • Restaurants in the passenger terminal buildings and Aeroplaza are non-smoking all day. The only exceptions are restaurants with their own smoking rooms
  • You cannot smoke anywhere except the designated smoking rooms
  • The official website does not list hours or fees for the smoking rooms. Treat them as following terminal operating hours
  • Locations may change with renovations. Also check the signs on the day
  • The Kansai International Airport official information does not say whether there are rooms only for heated tobacco
